    962 schools checked for Dengue in Western Province

    A dengue program was conducted from August 26-29 before the school term begins tomorrow (31) to check the schools on the instructions of Health and Indigenous Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratna.

    Under this program 62,525 places and 962 schools in the Western province in the districts of Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara were checked for dengue mosquitoes.

    In the 62,525 places checked the officials found 607 sites with mosquito larvae while 6497 places were found to be breeding grounds for mosquitoes. 2298 places were handover notices while 282 were prosecuted.

    The officials checked 962 schools and mosquito larva was found in 116 schools. 160 schools were handover notices while 12 schools will be prosecuted.

    540 teams comprising of members from the Three forces, Police and Health officials were involved in this exercise
