The findings of the Non Communicable Disease Risk factor survey was handed over to Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathna by Director General of Health Dr. Palitha Mahipala.

Dr. Senarathna said that President Maithripala Sirisena and me have signed and forwarded to the cabinet of ministers a proposal to increase the tax of tobacco to 90% . The Finance Minsiter must include its observations and minister hoped that it will be presented in Cabinet tomorrow as it is already one week late.

In addition to increasing the tax to 90% it has been decided to add the 15% VAT as well.
