According to Minister Daya Gamage, the first year of the five-year scheduled program of the government was spent to draft the plans and to lay the foundation for the development activities and the expected targets will be achieved gradually during the next four years.
Out of them, a project to plant 750 million pineapple crops in Gampaha, Kurunegala, and Puttlam Districts will be implemented. The project will be implemented in a land extent of 25,000 acres as an extra plantation of the coconut plantation. An income of Rs. 7.5 billion is expected.
The harvesting of pepper will also be increased by three times. Necessary technical and scientific knowledge will be given to the cultivators while one million women are empowered with the industry. Minister also explained the plans to increase the income from cinnamon and spice industries. In addition, the attention also was paid on the bee keeping and jaggery palm based production.
According to Minister Gamage, the constant assistance of the youth is required for achieving the said goals.
