Similarly, ice production of Sri Lanka has been boosted with the increase of ice factories. According to the statistical data of the Fisheries Ministry, daily production of ice in 2015 was 3819 metric tons and the amount has increased up to 3949 metric tons in 2016.
Currently, the total ice requirement of Sri Lankan fisheries is net by the local ice factories and the Ministry has taken measures to develop fishery harbors with more cold room facilities. Quality of the cold room facilities in CFC is proposed to be upgraded particularly aiming at income generation through the provision of such facilities to the private sector enterprises.
