Minister of Education Akila Wiraj Kariyawasam has instructed officials to initiate a program to increase the use of books in school libraries by 50 percent during the next five years.
As part of it, under the 'Nearest School is the Best School' initiative, a program has been implemented to grant Rs. 700 million for 3,200 schools to provide books for libraries.
These books given to the libraries should be approved by the Books Publications Advisory Board.
The Government official news portal is maintains by the New Media Unit of the Department of Government Information and it was titled "news.lk" and commenced in mid1996 and release to Internet from March 01st, 1997.
