The tunnel being constructed at Nakuttiya will be the largest tunnel in the country with an extent of 606 metres. The Southern region's largest railway station will be setup at Beliatta under Chinese funds.

Two hundred and twenty nine acres belonging to 1,225 families were acquired for the project with compensation paid up to Rs. 978 million to launch the construction of the railway line. Another tunnel will be set up at Bambarenda with an extent of 238 metres.

Railway stations will be set up at Kekanadura, Babarenda and Wewrukannala while sub-stations will be set up at Piladuwa and Weherahena. (ST/KH)
