Fire belt to be set up to control spread of forest fire

    August 17, 2014

The Department of Wildlife Conservation (DWC) has taken steps to set up fire belts in forests to control the spread of forest fires and DWC has request from public to inform on sudden break of forest fires on number 011-2888585 or by the Government Information Centre number 1919.

Fire belts are strips of land cleared to delay the spread of fires from one forest patch to another. This is an accepted mechanism found in many other countries to control forest fires. In this way, the damage from a forest fire could be controlled. (ST/KH)
