    Self employment programme for rehabilitated persons

    Sri Lankan Government has decided to implement a self employment programme which had been proposed in the year 2012.

    The proposal covers self employment loan facilities scheme to those who were once involved in terrorist activities and who subsequently underwent rehabilitation.

     

    Soft loans are being provided to beneficiaries so that they can lead their lives in a dignified manner. Approximately, 2,500 persons have benefitted. The number of applications received in anticipation of obtaining loans in the future exceeds 5750.

     

    The amount of loans provided by the State Banks under this scheme upto 31st December 2014 exceeds Rs. 302 Million.

     

    The Cabinet approval was granted to a proposal made by the Minister of Rehabilitation and Hindu Religious Affairs D.M.Swaminathan to implement the 2nd stage of this scheme with necessary revisions and to implement the provision of loans through Bank of Ceylon, the People’s Bank, Lankaputra Bank, and the Savings Bank of Sri Lanka. Originally the programme was implemented through the Bank of Ceylon.
