Children’s Cardiac Treatment Unit for Sirimavo Hospital in Peradeniya

    September 01, 2015

The Children’s Cardiac Treatment Unit built at a cost of 20 million rupees at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Children’s Hospital in Peradeniya has been opened. The opening took place under the patronage of the Health Director General.

This is the second Children’s Cardiac Residential Treatment Unit to be established in the island. It will meet the needs of a large group.

Previously such a treatment Unit prevailed only at the Lady Ridgeway Hospital in Colombo. More than 1600 children visit the Clinic at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Specialist Children’s Hospital. But no treatment can be meted out due to the lack of sufficient physical resources.

Health Officials said that this situation would be overcome with the opening of the 21 bed ward.

Health Services Director General Dr. Palitha Mahipala and Director of the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Specialized Children’s Hospital Dr. Nihal Weerasuriya were present at the opening of the Children's Cardiac Residential Treatment Unit.
