    MOOHs discuss Public Health Legislation

    Pre Congress Workshop for Medical Officers of Health (MOOH) on ‘Public Health Legislation’ was held yesterday (30th Aug.) at the National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS), Kalutara.

    The Workshop (Training Program) was organized by the College of Community Physicians of Sri Lanka (CCPSL), Legal Aid Commission of Sri Lanka, and NIHS for the first time with the intention of providing the MOOHs a clear understanding on Public Health Legislation, and providing a platform for them to clarify the doubts pertaining to the relevant field. Financial Assistance was provided by the World Health Organization. MOOHs representing every district including Northern and Eastern Provinces participated.

     

    Deputy Director of the NIHS Dr. Ruwan Ferdinando told News.lk that the participants discussed a bunch of legal problems that the solutions had to be sought and focused their attention on informing the relevant authorities. A report compiled by including the concerns raised by the participating MOOHs will be submitted to the Ministry of Health through the CCPSL. A five-day training program is also expected to be held targeting the MOOHs.

     

    Food Act, No 26 of 1980, Food (Amendment) Act, No 20 of 1991, Prevention of Mosquito Breading Act, No 11 of 2007, National Environmental (Amendment) Act, No 56 of 1988, Central Environmental Authority Act, No 47 of 1980, Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance, and Nuisances Ordinance were referred for discussion.
