The news relating to a boy committing suicide was telecast on several television channels on Saturday night and thereafter was circulated through social media.
He said that publiclytelecasting such high-sensitive contenteven blurring them according to international standards also should not take place anyway in a genuine society.
“‘Minimizing Harm’ is one of the key accepted media ethics. The damage caused by such content to the victim, family members, and small children is immense. This is a basic theory in media education. The laws relating to the reporting of suicides should also be considered in such occasions”, he added.
According to him, the government believed that the lack of an independent regulatory body for telecasting media is the reason for such violations of these ethics and it shows the immediate necessity of a regulatory body.
He also commended several media which suspended the telecasting of this incident as soon as the fault was pointed out.
