    Special operation to arrest drunk drivers from today

    A special operation has been launched to arrest drunk drivers for a period of one month from today, Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekara said. Police Media Spokesperson making a special statement said the operation is being carried out to minimize road accidents.

    According to the Spokesperson, 194,000 drunk drivers were arrested in 2018 and in the five months of this year the police arrested 36,359 drunk drivers.A special operation to arrest drunk drivers is scheduled to take effect from Friday, July 5th for a month, the Spokesperson said adding that Police officers who are conducting the operation will be given special rewards.

    Meanwhile the Police Headquarters is requesting the public to report the drug related information to the 1984 hotline. In October last year steps were taken to establish a Special Operations Room at the Police Headquarters to receive information regarding illicit drugs and the officers of the operation room attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau have been established in the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board.Accordingly, the Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara requests the public to inform the police about all narcotics to the 1984 hotline.
