He added that the system failure was reported on Thursday and steps are now being taken to rectify the system by Monday. When asked whether this system failure is an outcome of a cyber-attack, he said that the system failure cannot be a cyber-attack since the Persons Registration Department computer system has not been linked to any network as it is a local area network.
“Therefore this issue is not a cyber-attack but a temporary system-failure” he noted. He said that one-day service applications received today are treated as normal service applications. The identity cards relating to those applications will be sent to intended recipient by speed post after processing those applications promptly with a few days.
According to him, the Department receives around 1,000 applications daily and of them majority for one-day service.
