    Corona prevention programme forge ahead more systematically: All decisions based on specialist advice

    A special meeting was held at the President’s Office yestarday (04) to summarise and evaluate the programmes implemented in the country to prevent the spread of the Coronavirus, under the patronage of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

     

    The President of the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya briefed those present at the meeting on the global spread of the Covid-19 virus and the measures taken by the government to arrest its spread in the country. During the exchange of ideas it was stated that due to the swift action taken by the President and the government right at the initial stage of Coronavirus in the country, they were able to manage the situation and not let it get out of control.
    However, it was noted that the danger is yet not over.

    The President assured that all future decisions would be taken as in the past for the control of the Coronavirus based on the recommendations of the health, medical, security and legal professionals.

     

    It was also decided to study the global spread of the virus and follow the recommendations of the WHO and to carry on the Corona prevention programme in a more streamlined manner until the situation improves.

     

    The group also agreed during their meeting to conduct repeated tests on the infected persons, those suspected of having the virus, and those who associated the infected persons. The countries that have managed to control the spread of the Coronavirus had followed such procedures. The security officials added that they have managed to identify those who had associated with the persons who had tested positive

     

    President’s Secretary Lalith Weeratunga, former Governor Dr. Seetha Arambepola, Defence Secretary Maj. Gen. (rtd) Kamal Gunaratne, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva. Acting IGP C.D. Wickramaratne, members of the GMOA and the Chairman of the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) Jayantha de Silva participated in this meeting.
