The plant nursery presently contains a rare collection of native and exotic orchids, anthuriums and other ornamental foliage and flowering plant verities that will be propagated and used for the decorative and landscaping purposes of the university.  

The establishment of the plant nursery is one of the activities proposed under the Green Center (GC) that operates under the Green Practices Committee. GC further includes the proposed solid waste management unit that will start its operation in September 2015 and herbal and fruit gardens of the University of Kelaniya.
