Elections Commissioner also pointed out that June 01 has been named as the Voters’ Day. The national function in this respect will be held in Badulla and parallel to the event ceremonies will also be held at the Provincial level. The prime purpose of this effort is to educate the public in including their names in the Voters’ Lists. The Elections Chief said that there is a low trend with respect to the completion of the Voters” Lists by low income and higher income urban dwellers residing in flats.

The Elections Chief said that many householders do not duly fill the forms handed over to them to update the Voters’ Lists. But finally they allege that they are deprived of their voting rights. As such he appealed to all householders to duly fill the Voters’ Lists and hand them over to their respective Grama Niladharis.
