    Sri Lankan PM delivers kenote address at STS Forum in Japan

    Kyoto: Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is on an official visit to Japan, delivered the keynote address at the opening plenary session of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum at the Kyoto International Conference Center in Kyoto.

    The forum was attended by delegations  from around 100 countries and territories,  including Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and the Deputy Prime Ministers of Russia and France.

     

    Addressing the inaugural session of the Science and Technology in Society (STS) Forum Sunday (04), Prime Minister Wickramasinghe spoke on the technological progress and the challenges developing nations are facing. He said the assistance of more developed countries is essential for South Asian nations to free themselves from darkness.

     

    The forum community explore the opportunities arising from science and technology, and address how to remove the barriers to using science and technology to solve the problems facing humankind.

     

    The Prime Minister also met the Chairman of the Kyoto Science and Technology Forum Koji Omi on the side-lines of the forum.

     

    Science Technology and Research Minister Susil Premajayantha, who is part of the Sri Lankan delegation accompanying the Prime Minister, said the discussions focused on improving technological cooperation between Sri Lanka and Japan. He added that an invitation was extended to the Chairman of the forum to visit Sri Lanka.
