President Sirisena visited the late Minister’s residence at  Church road, Gampaha and expressed his deep condolences to family members of Mr. M.K.A.D.S. Gunawardena.

Mrs. Jayanthi Sirisena accompanied the President.

Mr. Gunawardana was a longstanding member of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party. He resigned from the post of Deputy Minister in 2014, and joined the campaign of common opposition candidate, Mr Maithripala Sirisena to defeat former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

In the 2015 General Election, he joined the United National Party and was appointed as the Minister of Lands after the United National Party won the election.
