    June 25, 2016

At the request of Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) has agreed to assist in the development of J.R. Jayewardene Institute as the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute.

A Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) was signed between the Office of the Secretary General of Parliament and the FNF on the 7th June 2016 in this regard.

The Primary objective of the project is to provide the necessary information needs and research material to Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Councils and other Political Representatives including Members of Local Government Institutions.

The Institution will also conduct several academic courses relevant to Parliamentarians leading to academic qualifications from affiliated universities.

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation, an international non-profit organization that promotes ideas of liberal democracy, respect for human rights, rule of law and economic freedom in more than 60 countries, has been working in Sri Lanka since the 1970s as a non-profit, non-governmental organization under a Memorandum of Co-operation with the Government of Sri Lanka.
