The President addressing the 6th phase of the National Program for Drug Free Country, held yesterday (26th June) in Nuwara Eliya said every possible effort will be taken for the drug prevention.

According to the President, the main reason for the poverty and the malnutrition in the Nuwara Eliya District is the drug addiction. A new comprehensive programs will be implemented in couple of months to educate the people to say no to drugs.

During the occasion President instructed officials to add the discussions on drug prevention into the agendas of the District Development Committees as well as Local Development Committees.

Five school children, the officers of Police Department and Civil Security Department, as well as a provincial journalist, who committed for drug prevention was also felicitated by the President at this occasion.

Minister P. Digambaram, Chief Minister of the Central Province Sarath Ekanayake, Member of Parliament Muththu Sivalingam, Senior Additional Secretary to the President Rohana Keerthi Dissanayake, and the Director of the Presidential Task Force for Drug Prevention Dr. Samantha Kithalawarachchi were among the participants.
