President Maithripala Sirisena ceremonially declared open a Pandol when he graced the Sirasa Vesak Zone as the Chief Guest yesterday (03).

The President Sirisena paid homage to the Omniscient Sacred Relic and the relics of the Maha Rahath Theros including the relics of Most Ven. Sariputta and Moggallana, (two of the Lord Buddha's closest disciples) during the occasion. The Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Mr. BMUD Basnayake carried the 'Karanduwa' to the special altar for public veneration.

The Sirasa Vesak Zone, replete with an animated Pandol, Vesak lanterns and Bhakthi Gee programmes added an air of religious fervor to the city where thousands were flocking to admire the elaborately made and coloufully illuminated marvels. Many Dansalas had also been organized to serve food and refreshments to the visiting public.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe, Ministers and Tri-Service Commanders were also present during the occasion.
