Priority should be given to practical issues pertaining to the resettlement process in the North and East when presenting suggestions and proposals to solve them, President Maithripala Sirisena said at the Presidential Secretariat on Wednesday (11). President Sirisena also gave instructions to convene a meeting of Resettlement Committee comprising of Governors of Northern and Eastern provinces, within the next two weeks, to look into matters pertaining to each area, The President further instructed the relevant persons not to submit proposals and solutions solely based on reports of Divisional Secretaries but to discuss provincial level issues at the National Committee headed by the Resettlement Minister headed and to submit an estimate to him. The Government has given priority to the resettlement process for the displaced persons in the North and the East and the objective of this discussion is to provide practical solutions while carrying out the resettlement process. Ministers D. M. Swaminathan, Lakshman Kiriella, Rishad Bathiudeen, Mahinda Amaraweera, Sajith Premadasa, Rauff Hakeem, Rajitha Senaratne, Patali Champika Ranawaka, .M.G.S. Palihakkara- Governor of Northern Province, Austin Fernando- Governor of Eastern Province, State Minister- Ruwan Wijewardene, Deputy Minister- Dunesh Gankanda, Nazeer Ahmed- Chief Minister of the Eastern Province, Dr. P. Sathyalingam – Northern Province Minister and other officials participated at the discussion.
