President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the newly built Uva Province Sports Complex. Sports complexes are coming up in every Province based on the Mahinda Chinthana Forward Vision where it states that at least one fully-fledged sports complex will e established in each Province with modern facilities to provide opportunities for rural sportsmen and women to improve their talents and sports skills. The Uva Provincial Sports Complex built at a cost of 535 million rupees has facilities for the staging over 25 events including athletics, soccer and rugby. The President and the guests watched the first soccer match played at the Football Stadium. A large crowd were preesent at the occasion and the President exchanged pleasantries with them. Ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Prof.G.L.Peiris, Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Dilan Perera, Uva Province Governor Nanda Mathew and Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister Maheepala Herath were present.(KH)
